Becoming Par | Grip

B

Season is almost over and I have decided to enroll again in some Fall training program to further refine my game. I have also started doing some off-season personal training with Laylor Performance Systems (Spadina & Wellington), who trains a lot of am & pro athletes. I figured, if I was going to get more power, in a controlled manner I would need to get stronger in general so I am always...

Consistency Wins 2010 Roger Cup

C

The Roger Cup is a series of 6 tournaments throughout the golfing season. Points are awarded to players in the top 10 at each event, and the player of the year is given to the player with the most points after the 6 tournaments. These top players will also be invited back to play the CBC Invitational Tournament at Remington Parkview for a one day tournament.

Becoming Par | First win on the Tour

B

After 6 tournaments on the Tour, I finally won my first tournament in the GTA Amateur Tour (Flight C).  You can read about it here: In the previous post, I spoke about course management and how it can really lower score, and mentally allows you to play a better game.  Today, I want to expand on that and give you examples of what I did that ultimately led me to this win. If you want to follow the...

Steady play beats the heat at The Nature Valley Open

S

TORONTO (AUGUST 11, 2010) – A placement type golf course can test a player’s patience in the best of conditions, but throw in some really humid and sticky weather, and you really have to keep a level head if you want to score well. That was just the challenge that GTAAT competitors faced today at Royal Woodbine GC while playing the B-C Flight Nature Valley Open. Fifty-nine players competed today...

Becoming Par | Shoot for Par, Settle for Bogey

B

I really have everyone to thank for the progress and success I’ve had thus far.  Today, I really want to go into course management and what I have been doing to keep my score down. In the past, there are many times, in fact, most times I’d always want to go for the green in regulation, however more times than not (if you are not within comfortable range) you will end up in danger area...

Becoming Par | New Club Stats

B

Beautiful weather is finally with us, and I have finally purchased a Bushnell Laser Finder to see my distance on a range as opposed to a simulator.  So last week, I asked my friend to bring his tripod to put my Bushnell on, and we measured distance carried.  We went in the early morning where there was almost no balls on the track.  I also tested my swing speed on the simulator, on 3 different...

Becoming Par | Downswing

B

8 Lessons, complete! Finally, learning today about the downswing, and how to turn the hips properly. In the past, because I didn’t learn about the downswing, all I did was try to push forward laterally, but I did it wayyy too much, so my legs, hips, back arms were not completely in sync. If I had to change one thing, and if anyone trains anyone else out there, I would give a complete...

Becoming Par | Scorecard

B

TourIQ wrote in earlier posts how I plan on keeping score and while reading Golf Digest, I came across this scorecard that I have now printed out like several copies and used it on several courses now. I recommend everyone do the same, and I will update my RCGA Network score card with the last couple of times I’ve played outdoors this season. Aside from that, for the last 3-4 weeks, I kept...
